Historic Northeast Ohio restaurant joins Akron Athletics, bringing its burgers and more than 140 years of Menches family history to Zips fans
AKRON, Ohio — A familiar Northeast Ohio name is coming back to Akron as Menches Brothers is proud to announce a new partnership with Akron Athletics, bringing Menches Brothers burgers to InfoCision Stadium for Akron Zips football games.
Through its partnership with Akron Athletics, fans attending games at InfoCision Stadium will be able to enjoy Menches Brothers burgers and other game-day favorites without leaving the stadium.
"We are incredibly excited to bring Menches Brothers back into Akron," said the Menches Brothers ownership team, John Menches and his sister Linda Aleman. "Our family has such a long history with this community, so being able to serve our burgers at InfoCision Stadium feels like we're bringing a piece of that history home."
The partnership brings together two proud Northeast Ohio traditions: Akron Zips Athletics and the Menches Brothers name.
"We are excited to partner with Menches Brothers and embrace this unique opportunity to help reunite the Akron community with a local favorite," The University of Akron Director of Athletics Dr. Andrew T. Goodrich said. "This partnership also enhances the gameday experience at InfoCision Stadium-Summa Health Field by providing our fans with upgraded food options and another opportunity to enjoy a great Akron tradition while supporting Zips Athletics."
For Menches Brothers, it is also an opportunity to introduce a new generation of Akron students, alumni and football fans to the story behind the burger.
"We want people to enjoy a great burger, but we also want them to know the history behind our name," John said. "There aren't many places where you can sit in the stands, cheer on your hometown team and eat a burger connected to a family story that began more than 140 years ago."
FROM 1885 TO INFOCISION STADIUM
For the Menches family, this is more than a new place to serve burgers. It's a homecoming.
The Menches name has deep roots in Akron and Northeast Ohio. The family's story dates back to 1885, when brothers Frank and Charles Menches are credited with creating the hamburger while serving food at the Erie County Fair in Hamburg, New York.
Nearly two decades later, the brothers were also credited with helping introduce another American favorite—the ice cream cone—at the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair.
The Menches family eventually brought its food business to Akron, becoming part of the city's history. Today, that tradition continues at Menches Brothers Restaurant in Green, where the family celebrates its heritage while serving the burgers that have kept the Menches name alive for generations.
Now, that story is returning to Akron in a new way. The Menches Brothers are back in Akron. And this time, they're bringing the burgers to Zips game day.
Menches Brothers continues to operate its restaurant at 3700 Massillon Road in Green, Ohio, along with its food truck and community event operations throughout Northeast Ohio. The addition of InfoCision Stadium marks the next chapter in the Menches family's long connection to the Akron community.
