AKRON, Ohio --Akron received contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, helping the Zips put eight runs on the board and knock off the Central Michigan Chippewas 8-1 behind a stellar pitching performance by freshman Madie Jamrog, who gave up only one hit and one run on Wednesday night at Firestone Stadium. With the win, Akron head coach Craig Nicholson recorded his 1,300 career win.
Jamrog (10-6) started in the circle and picked up the win for Akron (29-24). The right-hander went seven innings and carried a no-hitter into the bottom of the sixth inning. Jamrog allowed only one run on one hit as CMU's Carly Sleeman hit a homerun to break up the no-no. Jamrog recorded seven strikeouts and four walks.
In the batter's box, the Zips were paced by sophomore Lily Sullivan, who went 3-for-5 on the day with a double and three RBIs. Senior Alexis Campbell furnished a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs, while sophomore Katie Cantrell had one hit in two trips to the plate while adding a walk and two RBIs. Junior Brooke Sivek also posted a 1-for-2 performance with three walks, scoring four runs.
