AKRON, Ohio -Â The University of Akron women's soccer team garnered the first career goal from freshman Luisa Fragnoli (Medina, Ohio) in the 14th minute (13:54) to propel the Zips to a 1-0 shutout victory past Eastern Illinois on Sunday (Aug. 17) at home at FirstEnergy Stadium.
How it Happened
Akron grabbed a 1-0 lead when Fragnoli scored her first goal of the season with a laser to the upper corner of the net from just beyond the 18-yard box. Registering assists on the tally was sophomore Allie McMillen (Shreve, Ohio) and senior Rielly Chesna (Chicago, Ill.).Â
The Zips outshot the Panthers in the initial stanza, 8-3, en route to posting a 14-9 edge in shots on the afternoon.
Game Notes
- Junior goalkeeper Sara Bower (Cincinnati, Ohio)Â totaled four saves for the Zips to earn her second consecutive clean sheet.
- Akron has now recorded seven consecutive shutouts in non-conference play dating back to the 2024 campaign.
