MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -Â The University of Akron women's soccer team fell 3-0 on the road against West Virginia on Thursday (Aug. 21).
How it Happened
The Mountaineers broke into the scoring column when Abbey Olexa scored what proved to be the game-winning goal at the 16:11 mark. The Zips were strong defensively the rest of the half entering the intermission trailing 1-0.
West Virginia extended its advantage with tallies in the 49th (48:18) and 52nd (51:17) minutes, respectively.
Junior GK Sara Bower (Cincinnati, Ohio) and redshirt freshman GKÂ Ariana Vakos (Avon, Ohio) each recorded a pair of saves for Akron. The Zips did not record a shot in the loss. Akron faced 19 West Virginia shots, eight of them on goal.
