VILLANOVA, Pa. — The Akron men's soccer team piled on five goals as they shutout Villanova, 5-0, at Higgins Soccer Complex.
The Zips tallied three in the first half, as Thomas O'Rourke got it going in the 23rd minute. Then, Farrel Ngongang notched two in the final five minutes of the period. His first one came in the 42nd minute and was assisted by Londen Sears, while Sears and Leo Morana assisted on Ngongang's second less than three minutes later.
In the 70th minute, Matthew Paiva snuck a ball into the lower right corner of the net off a pass from Freddy Kossehasse, and Braxton Hayes finished off the fun nine minutes later on an assist from Nolan McGuire.
Eight different Zips tallied at least one point in the match as they outshot the Wildcats, 26-10. Brett Kaminski made five saves in net during his sixth clean sheet of the season.
The victory marked Akron's 10th of the year — the program's 47th all-time double-digit winning season and 22nd since 2000.
The five goals scored tied a season high along with their 5-2 victory over Robert Morris back in September. It is also the most goals the team has scored in a BIG EAST match since joining the conference in 2023.
