Akron Falls 88-55 to Ball State

MUNCIE, Ind. -Â The University of Akron women's basketball team got a 12-point and 10-rebound performance from junior Keiryn McGuff (Dublin, Ohio), but fell 88-55 at Ball State on Wednesday (Feb. 25).
The Zips had two players score in double figures, led by McGuff, who had a double-double, her second of the season. Sophomore Liz Murphy (Yackandandah, Australia) tacked on 11 points off the bench and sophomore Izzy Callaway (Copley, Ohio) added six points and six rebounds.
Akron forced 15 Ball State turnovers turning those takeaways into nine points on the offensive end of the floor. Senior Maddie Vejsicky (New Concord, Ohio) led the way individually with two steals.
How It Happened
After falling behind 6-0, Akron went on a 6-0 run with 6:59 left in the first quarter to tie the game at six. Ball State then pulled ahead, sending the Zips into the second quarter down 17-12.
The Zips faced a 42-26 halftime deficit.
Ball State continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 44-26 advantage before Akron went on a 6-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Callaway, to trim its deficit to 44-32 with 7:45 to go in the third. Ball State countered and stretched its lead to 65-44 heading into the fourth. Akron played well near the basket, scoring 10 of its 18 points in the paint.
Ball State widened its lead in the fourth, constructing a 69-44 advantage before Akron went on a 6-0 run, finished off by Murphy's jumper, to shrink the deficit to 69-50 with 7:19 to go in the contest. Akron took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring six of its 11 points in the paint.
