Zips Sweep MAC Series at Ball State

MUNCIE, IN --The Akron Zips opened Mid-American Conference play with a series sweep at Ball State, winning game one (18-6) and finishing the sweep on Saturday with a pair of win 5-3 and 1-0.
GAME 1 | Akron 5, Ball State 3
Sophia Wygast totaled three hits to help lead the Akron Zips past the Ball State Cardinals 5-3 Saturday.
In addition to her three hits, Wygast had a double, a walk and two RBIs to lead the Zips. Andrea Day put together a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Madie Jamrog (2-4) started in the circle and picked up the win for Akron (10-16, 10-16). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up three runs, all of them earned, on eight hits, allowing four walks and striking out three.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips were trailing 2-0 in the fourth inning when they first put runs on the board. Akron's offense started clicking and put up five runs, including a two-run groundout off the bat of Wygast. Ball State put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Zips still held on for the 5-3 win.

The Akron Zips rallied from tied 0-0 in the sixth inning to win in dramatic fashion, earning a 1-0 victory over the Ball State Cardinals Saturday.
Macy Walters (7-7) started in the circle and picked up the win for Akron (11-16, 3-0). The right-hander went seven shutout innings while giving up six hits, allowing three walks and striking out six.
Haley glass delivered what proved to be the game-winning hit and RBI, driving Lily Sullivan across the plate in the top of the seventh inning.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips took the lead for good in the seventh, scoring for the first and only time in the inning. Lily Sullivan came across to score the lone run of the inning for Akron and get them on the board.
