Griffiths and Wendl Earn MAC Track and Field Athlete of the Week Honors

MID-AMERICAN CONFERENCE TRACK AND FIELD ATHLETES OF THE WEEK RELEASE
CLEVELAND, Ohio - University of Akron redshirt seniors Gabrielle Griffiths (Fort Worth, Texas) and Owen Wendl (Medina, Ohio) were recognized by the Mid-American Conference as its Track and Field Athletes of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday (March 31).

Wendl and Griffiths were selected as the men's and women's Field Athletes of the Week.

Wendl was a double winner at the Don McGarey Invitational, highlighted by a school-record shot put mark of 61-9 (18.82m). He also captured the discus title with a league-leading throw of 180-10 (55.11m). His shot put performance leads the MAC and ranks No. 8 in the NCAA this season.

Griffiths delivered a standout performance at the Don McGarey Invitational, winning the javelin with a career-best throw of 156-4 (47.66m). She also placed second in the hammer throw with a season-best and MAC-leading mark of 190-2 (57.96m).

The Zips return to competition this weekend participating in a quartet of meets.
