Akron Never Trails in 3-2 Win Over Canisius

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. --The Akron Zips split the final double of the Marshall March Madness Tournament, defeating Canisius 3-2 and falling to Marshall 4-0 on Saturday afternoon.Â
GAME 2 vs Canisius
The Akron Zips took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and never trailed from there on the way to a 3-2 win over the Canisius Golden Griffins on Saturday.
Macy Walters (4-7) got the win for Akron (7-16). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on eight hits, allowing one walk and striking out three.
In the batter's box, the Zips were led by Meagan Lee, who went 3-for-4 on the day with a double and an RBI. Sophia Wygast put together a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 1-for-3 with an RBI. Delaney Jenkinson also helped out for Akron, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding a double.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Akron got on the board thanks to Lee's RBI double.
After the Golden Griffins rallied to tie the ballgame at one, the Zips came back to retake the lead in the second inning. Akron scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Lee, which brought the Zips lead to 2-1.
Canisius clawed back to tie the ballgame at two before Akron reclaimed a 3-2 advantage in the fifth inning. The Zips scored once on an RBI single off the bat of . The score remained 3-2 for the rest of the game, as Akron held on for the win.

GAME 1 vs Marshall --
The Akron Zips fell 4-0 to Marshall on Saturday despite collecting five hits against Marshall pitcher Maddie Veal.
Lee had another tremendous outing as she went 2-for-3 from the plate. Andrea Day registered a double on a 1-for-3 performance, while Sivek and Cantrell had one hit each.
Macy Walters (3-7) got the ball to start for Akron (7-16) and took the loss. Sydney Selker was a bright spot for the Zips, starting the ballgame and throwing 1.1 shutout innings, allowing no hits, with no walks and one strikeout.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Akron managed zero chances with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position. The Zips last got a runner on third in the second, when Day made it 60 feet away from scoring with two outs.
GAME NOTES
» The Zips out-hit the Thundering Herd at a 5-4 clip.
