Morgan and Phillips Record Three Hits Each; Bowen Brothers Hit Home Runs in Loss to Ball State

MUNCIE, Ind. -Â Brennan Morgan and Kelton Phillips each collected three hits, while Blake and Brady Bowen each hit home runs in a 13-8 loss at Ball State on Friday. but the Akron Zips fell to the Ball State Cardinals 13-8 on Friday.
In addition to his three hits, Phillips had an RBI to lead the Zips, along with Morgan's three base knocks. Brady Bowen also contributed for Akron, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding a home run, two walks and three RBI. Blake Bowen recorded two hits, a home run, three RBI and one walk.
John Allen (0-1) took the loss on the mound for Akron (14-19, 5-11).
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the second inning. Mitchel Szymczak came across to score the lone run of the inning for Akron and get them on the board.
The Zips lost the lead they built in the second, but got back on the board in the fifth trailing 2-1. The Akron offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a two-run groundout off the bat of Bowen and a two-run groundout from Blake Bowen, which brought the score to 5-2 in favor of the Zips.
Akron kept Ball State scoreless before expanding their lead to 6-2 the following inning.
Akron surrendered the lead they built in the sixth, but got back on the board in the ninth trailing 13-6. Blake Bowen and freshman Brady Bowen each scored a run for the Zips in the inning, tightening the Ball State lead to 13-8. The ballgame ended with that ninth inning rally falling short.
