Akron kept the Chippewas off the board before tying it up in the sixth. The Zips scored four runs in the inning, highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of Brady Bowen, tying the score at 9-9.
Central Michigan then broke up that tie and took a 12-9 lead moving into the ninth, when the Zips narrowed the gap to 12-11. Akron scored twice on Amundson's two-run homer. The ballgame ended with that ninth inning rally falling short.
