Jebitok Qualifies for NCAA Track and Field Championships to Headline Akron's Thursday Efforts

LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Akron redshirt freshman Mercy Jebitok (Kapsabet, Kenya) ran a Mid-American Conference and school-record time of 33:05.76 in the women's 10,000 meters in second-day competition at the NCAA East Preliminary Round on Thursday (May 28).

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Jebitok garnered a seventh-place finish in a time of 33:05.76 to earn a qualifying berth to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on June 11 in Eugene, Ore. The women's 10,000-meter final will be at 10:56 p.m. ET from historic Heyward Field. Jebitok will be Akron's first-ever runner in the event at the NCAA Outdoor Championships and represents the first Zip from the women's squad to advance to nationals since 2019.
• Redshirt senior Cassidy Allen (Lakewood, N.Y.) capped her Akron career eclipsing 13-4.25 (4.07m) in the women's pole vault.
• Redshirt senior Brook Boes (Tiffin, Ohio) recorded a mark of 49-7 (15.11m) in the women's shot put and 179-6 (54.71m) in the women's hammer.
• Redshirt senior Gabrielle Griffiths (Fort Worth, Texas) culminated her career as a Zip turning in a mark of 180-11 (55.15) in the women's hammer and 146-10 (44.76m) in the women's javelin.
• Junior Megan Hipple (Warren, Ohio) crossed the line in 35:02.23 in the women's 10,000 meters.
