AKRON, Ohio - The No. 6/10 ranked Akron men's soccer team hosts Wake Forest for a White Out match at FirstEnergy Stadium on Friday, Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. Akron looks to improve to 2-0-1 on the season, while the Deamon Deacons look for their first win over a Top 10 opponent since 2022.

SCOUTING REPORT
The Wake Forest men's soccer team opened its 2026 campaign with a 1-1 draw against rival Air Force. Freshman Gunnar Guest registered the equalizing goal in the 59th minute. Army was selected sixth overall in the 2026 Patriot League Men's Soccer Preseason Poll, while Seniors Kelly Cooper and Jubril Bamgbala both earned spots on the preseason All-Patriot League Team.

THE SERIES
Akron and Wake Forest are squaring off for the 10th time in program history with the all-time series at a 4-4-1 stalemate. In the last meeting between the two programs, No. 10 Akron registered a 1-0 victory over No. 2 Wake Forest on Nov. 25, 2018 in Winston-Salem, N.C. to advance in the NCAA Tournament. Akron went on to play for the National title against Maryland. The first meeting of the series was on Sept. 5, 1981 as Akron claimed a 5-3 win in Akron, Ohio.

ZIPS FIRST TIME OUT
Akron Zips held the Dayton Flyers scoreless and cruised to a 3-0 shutout victory in the season opener on Thursday (Aug. 20) at FirstEnergy Stadium. The Zips held a five-shot advantage (15-10) over the Flyers ang put six shots on goal compared the Dayton's two. Akron goalkeeper Brett Kaminski recorded a clean sheet, denying both Flyer shot attempts. Three different players scored goals in the shutout performance as Remi Agunbiade, Londen Sears and Jack Sullivan found the back of the net.
In the second game of the 2026 season, Akron battled Army to a 0-0 tie despite outshooting the Black Knights 24-5 and maintaining possession for 73-percent of the match.

ZIPS IN THE BIG EAST
Akron was selected by the league's men's soccer coaches to finish as the top team in the Midwest Division, while No. 5/5 Georgetown was tabbed to win the East Division. Akron had two players tabbed on the preseason All-BIG EAST Preseason team as forward Remi Agunbiade and midfielder Matt Dreas were selected among the 12-member group. Dreas was also selected for the 2026 Missouri Athletic Club's (MAC) Hermann Trophy Watch List. In 2025, Dreas was a second team United Soccer Coaches All-East Region recipient and second team All-BIG EAST selection. He started all 21 matches for Akron as the Zips advanced to the Quarterfinal Round of the NCAA Tournament. He netted one goal and tallied one assist, totaling three points for the Blue and Gold. Dreas was key contributor in the midfield unit that limited opponents to 0.71 goals per game. Agunbiade was selected in second round of MLS SuperDraft (No. 58 overall) by San Diego FC and named to TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week twice (Dec. 2, Sept. 29) in 2025. He appeared in 20 matches, including 16 starts and scored seven goals and added a pair of assists on the strength of 30 shots with 15 on goal, earning 16 points for the Blue & Gold. Akron advanced to the NCAA Championship quarterfinals in 2025, finishing the season with a 13-5-3 overall record. The Zips received 66 points and 11 first-place votes to lead the Midwest Division. Creighton earned the remaining first-place vote and 56 points to rank second, followed by Xavier with 43 points. Marquette was selected fourth with 34 points, DePaul fifth with 27 and Butler sixth with 20.
