No. 17 Men's Soccer Ready for Ranked Showdown with No. 5 Georgetown

AKRON, Ohio — The Akron men's soccer team will face Georgetown on Friday, September 25 at FirstEnergy Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
The Zips (5-0-2) enter the contest ranked No. 17 in the latest United Soccer Coaches poll, while Georgetown (7-1-1) is ranked No. 5. It will be the Zips' second ranked matchup of the season, their first being against then-No. 18 Cornell. In that match, Akron came from behind twice and defeated the Big Red, 3-2, at FirstEnergy Stadium back on September 8.
After a scoreless draw against Butler in their BIG EAST opener, the Zips rebounded and rattled off a season-high five goals in a non-conference matchup against Robert Morris on Tuesday. Five different players scored, and the Zips took 35 shots — their most in a single match in over a decade.
Georgetown is coming off a 3-2 non-conference victory over Evansville back on Monday. In the match before, they bested Marquette, 3-0, in their BIG EAST opener. Friday's match will mark the Hoyas' first road game since September 7 when they traveled to Maryland — losing 3-2 in their lone blemish of the season.
Akron leads the series, 3-1-1, and both teams last met in 2024. The Zips won the regular season matchup, 1-0, but lost, 2-1, in overtime in their BIG EAST Tournament showdown.
Friday's matchup also marks Greek Night. Students from fraternities and sororities are encouraged to come and support the Zips in this major showdown.
