Zips Swept by Thundering Herd in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. —The Akron volleyball team lost, 3-0 (30-32, 17-25, 19-25), against Marshall at IU Indy's Hampton Inn/Indy Invitational.
The first set was a back-and-forth affair that featured three lead changes and 13 ties. The Zips held a four-point advantage five times throughout the stanza and proceeded to take a 21-17 lead. Marshall rallied to tie it up on three separate occasions before Akron make it 25-24. The teams traded the next five points, and the Thundering Herd notched a 28-27 advantage.
Akron then took three of the next four points to take a 30-29 lead, but Marshall scored the final three points to take the set.
The Thundering Herd held the lead throughout the entire second set. Akron climbed to within two, 7-5, early in the stanza, but Marshall outscored the Zips, 18-12, the rest of the set.
In the third set, Akron got out to a 3-0 lead and kept their advantage until Marshall made it 8-6 and took it for good. The Zips got within one on two separate occasions, but a five-point rally all but sealed the deal for Marshall.
Delaney Gash notched a game-high 14 kills for the Zips, while Lauren Wilson tallied 13 with a .346 hitting percentage. Clara Christensen had 19 assists, and Chidera Ozoh totaled six blocks. As a team, Marshall hit .310 compared to Akron's .135.

The Zips will stay in Indianapolis and face Butler at Hinkle Fieldhouse on Friday, September 4 at 6 p.m. as part of the Hampton Inn/Indy Invitational.
