Before Akron: Lyles is a 6-7 forward from Columbus, Ohio, who helped lead Beechcroft High School to three consecutive City Championships and a 22-0 record in league play since the 2020 season. Lyles averaged a double-double throughout his career with the Cougars, recording 20.5 points and 12.0 rebounds per game as a senior. He eclipsed the 1,000-career point total in 57 games played, averaging 17.7 points and 10.0 rebounds.

Lyles was a First Team All-City selection in 2022, while leading the Cougars to the DII District Finals. In 2021, the Cougars fell in the district semifinal game and the 2020 team won the DII District Championship before the season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
