MUNCIE, Ind. -- The University of Akron swimming and diving team split a pair of dual meets on its road trip over the weekend, falling to Eastern Michigan on Friday night before rebounding with a victory over Ball State on Saturday.
Eastern Michigan won the battle on Friday, 223-77, before Akron responded with its first dual win of the season in a close matchup with Ball State on Saturday, securing the victory by a 151.5-148.5 margin.
Luka Szynal posted Akron's two wins against the Eagles, sweeping the 100 and 200 backstroke.
One day later, UA and Ball State split their 16 events evenly as each school picked up victories in eight events, but the Zips edged the Cardinals by three points.
Akron started out the day with a win in the 200 medley relay, as Ashley Niznik, Amanda Lawson, Erin Seiler and Hannah Raspopovich teamed up for a time of 1:47.62. Kara Kaulius and Natalie O'Brien took the top two spots in the next event, the 1000 free, with times of 10:51.37 and 10:54.98.
Szynal swept the 100 and 200 back for the second-straight day, swimming 57.50 and 2:05.70 against the Cardinals. Seiler won all three of her individual events as well, with a time of 2:08.07 in the 200 fly and 58.03 in the 100 fly. The junior also took top honors in the 200 IM (2:10.93).
Raspopovich secured the final individual victory for the Zips, winning the 50 free by .01 second. She clocked in at 24.54, just beating out BSU's Carlena Magley at 24.55.
The Zips step away from competition for a few weeks before they make the short trip to Cleveland State for the Magnus Cup Invitational, Nov. 21-23.
