Swimming and Diving Notches 197-102 Victory over Youngstown State

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Akron swimming and diving team took first place in 11-of-16 events against Youngstown State on Friday evening to cruise to a 197-102 victory at Beeghly Natatorium.
In addition, the Zips took two of the top three spots in 15-of-16 events while completing four 1-2-3 sweeps.
Senior Amanda Lawson, sophomore Luka Szynal and sophomore diver Paige Kelkenberg each collected two individual first-place finishes as each won all of her events.
Kelkenberg won both the one-meter and three-meter diving events, breaking into the top-five in program history in the one-meter event with a score of 289.58. The sophomore won the three-meter dive at 303.75 while junior Alice Hottensmith grabbed second in each of the diving events.
Lawson touched first in the 100-yard breastroke at 1:06.80 and again in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:24.73, edging YSU's second-place finish by nearly five seconds.
Szynal mirrored Lawson's performance by dominating the backstroke events, taking first in the 100-yard event at 57.41 to lead the way for a sweep of the top spots as she was followed by sophomore Laura Savariau and senior Kelsey Ferrante in second and third, respectively. Szynal grabbed her second top finish in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:01.55
Both swimmers were also a member of the victorious 400-yard medley relay team that also featured junior Erin Seiler and senior Taylor Hart and posted a time of 3:56.75 to set up a sweep as Akron's B and C teams trailed close behind.
Akron opened the meet taking second and third in the 200-yard freestyle before Paloma Marrero Munoz won the 200-yard IM, finishing at 2:13.03 in her first event as a Zip. Marrero narrowly out-touched teammate Allison Teske, who took second at 2:13.33.
Junior Hannah Raspopovich and freshman Susan Franz took first and second, respectively in the 50-yard freestyle before the Zips swept the top spots in the 100-yard freestyle, the 100-yard butterfly.
UA now owns a 2-2 record in dual meet action this season.
The Zips face a quick turn around, as they travel to Loretto, Pa. to take on St. Francis (Pa.) on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Stokes Natatorium.
