Beallsville, Md. – Senior Danielle Nicholson (Geneva, Ohio) led the Akron women's golf team to a third-place finish with a runner-up performance in the Zips final regular season event of the season on Tuesday.

The Zips posted a 302 (+14) final round for a 304-309-302 - 915 (+51) team total and third-place showing, while Nicholson battled the flu and shot 2-over par 74 score. She carded 12 par scores and two birdies mixed with four bogeys in the final round effort.

Nicholson finished runner-up and only one stroke behind the leader Christina Parsells, of the host team Georgetown. Nicholson completed the 54-hole event with a 3-over par 219 tally on rounds of 72 (E), 73 (+1) and 74 (+2). For the tournament, she recorded 31 pars, 10 birdies and 13 bogeys.

Three additional Zips posted Top 25 performances as sophomore Abbie Pearce (Green, Ohio) followed in scoring for Akron. She finished tied for 15th overall with a 231 (+15) ledger. Pearce collected a pair of 76 (+4) scores on the first and third rounds and added a 79 (+7) second round score. She carded 28 pars and eight birdies in 54 holes of play.

Rounding out the Top 25 performers were senior Makayla Dull (Fremont, Ohio) and freshman Ivana Shah (Mumbai, India). Bothe, Dull and Shah tied for 23rd overall 235 (+19). Dull was also battling the flu-bug and climbed five spots to reach the 23rd spot with a 75 (+3) final round score. She added scores of 82 (+10) and 78 (+6).

Shah fired a pair of 79 (+7) scores to open the event and shaved two strokes from her final score, 77 (+5), while junior Allyson Wentworth (Stewartsville, N.J.) finished tied for 32nd overall with a 77-81-80 – 238 (+22).

Georgetown claimed the team title by eight strokes over runner-up Ball State. The Cardinals finished one stroke better than the Zips. The Hoyas posted 302-299-305 - 906 (+42), while Ball State finished with a 305-303-306 - 914 (+50).

The Zips will be back in action at the Mid-American Conference Tournament at Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville, Ind. On Friday-Sunday, April 19-21.
