Akron Golf Enters Final Round of Colonel Classic Third Overall

AKRON, Ohio – The Akron Zips women's golf team enters the final round of the Colonel Classic ranked third among the 14-team field after finishing 36-holes of play on Monday with an xxx (+xx) team total.

Due to weather, the start of the tournament at the 5,910-yard, par-72 University Club at Arlington was delayed by two hours as the 81-player field began shotgun play around 10:30 a.m.

The Zips have three players currently ranked inside the Top 20 as sophomore Ivana Shah (Mumbai, India) and freshmen Jessica Hahn (Canton, Ohio) are currently tied for 12th overall with 147 (+3) totals, while sophomore Jacinta Pikunas (Youngstown, Ohio) recorded a 148 (+4) 36-hole total which stands tied for 16th overall.

The Zips fired an opening round 299 (+11) team score fueled by a 1-under par 71 performance by Shah. Shah carded 13 par scores, three birdies and two bogeys to lead the Zips initial 18-hole effort.

Pikunas followed with a 75 (+3) effort recording two birdies, while junior Abbie Pearce (Green, Ohio) registered two birdies and finished with a 76 (+4) ledger. Hahn and freshman Jennifer David (Hudson, Ohio) rounded out the team scoring with 77 (+5) scores.

Akron entered the second 18-hole round of the day ranked fourth overall with a two-stroke advantage over the Ohio Bobcats and a four-stroke deficit to the Cincinnati Bearcats. Akron erased the deficit and climbed one spot on the leaderboard to finish third overall with a 5-over par 293 team total.

Hahn paced the Zips' scoring with a 2-under par 70 effort, collecting 12 pars and four birdies with two bogeys. Pikunas followed with a 1-over 73 effort that included 13 par scores and three birdies offset by two double bogeys. David also improved her score during the second round, carding a 74 (+2) while Shah posted a 76 (+4) score and Pearce finished with an 81 (+9) ledger.

Freshman Riley Dean (Lewis Center, Ohio) competed as an individual and carded rounds of 81 (+9) and 83 (+11) enroute to a 164 (+20) total.
