Central Michigan Holds Off Zips Comeback, 17-10

MOUNT PLEASANT, Michigan --Â Akron fell 17-10 to Central Michigan on the road Saturday afternoon at Kelly/Shorts Stadium.
Akron RB Lorenzo Lingard led the Zips rushing attack with 45 yards on 10 carries, picking up 4.5 yards per carry, while QB Tahj Bullock also added 32 yards on the ground, averaging 5.3 yards per carry. Bullock started behind center and tossed for 45 yards, and QB Jeff Undercuffler, Jr. threw for a touchdown on a 10-of-16 effort with 78 yards passing.Â
The Zips most prolific target was WR Daniel George, who caught three passes for 36 yards, while WR Alex Adams caught two passes for 16 yards, including the Zips lone touchdown.
Akron's defense held up against Central Michigan's offense, giving up 298 total yards. The Zips defense disrupted the Central Michigan passing attack on the way to recording two interceptions and breaking up two Chippewas passes as S KJ Martin had one interception with five tackles and DB Devonte Golden-Nelson registered the first pick of the game.Â
Akron DB Darrian Lewis paced the defense with 14 tackles, including two tackles for loss and a 0.5 sack, while DL Bennett Adler, DL Devon Robinson and DT Terray Jones all posted 0.5 sacks. Antavious Fish followed with 13 takedowns.
The Chippewas improved to 4-3 on the year and 2-1 in Mid-American Conference play, while the Zips fell to 1-6 overall and 0-3 in the league.
Akron scored first with 6:17 left in the first quarter to take a 3-0 lead.Central Michigan then scored to take a 17-3 lead before the Zips put a touchdown on the board to close the gap and make it a 17-10 game. Neither team scored again in the game.
