Zips Fall in Double Overtime at Eastern Michigan 30-27

YPSILANTI, Michigan -- Akron took Eastern Michigan to extra periods Tuesday night on the road inside Rynearson Stadium, but fell 30-27 in double overtime.
Akron QB Jeff Undercuffler led Akron's passing attack with 223 yards through the air, while QB Tahj Bullock added 20 yards on the ground and one touchdown.
Zips RB Lorenzo Lingard led all Zips rushers with 71 yards and one touchdown in the contest, while WR Daniel George paced the receiving corps with five catches for 83 yards. Akron WR Jasaiah Gathings followed with seven catches for 80 yards.
Defensively, LB Shammond Cooper collected a team-best nine tackles, 2.0 TFL, and one sack. Nate Thompson added four tackles, 1.0 TFL, and one sack. The defense limited the Eagles to 315 total yards.
The Akron offense converted on 63.2 percent of third-down attempts going 12-for-19 on the day. The Zips also went 1-for-1 on fourth down.
How It HappenedAkron scored first with 11:27 left in the second quarter to take a 7-0 lead.Eastern Michigan then tied it up at 7-7 before the Zips responded with a seven-yard touchdown rush from to retake the lead at 14-7.
After Eastern Michigan tied the game at 14-14, Akron got on the scoreboard again with 8:00 left in the fourth quarter with a 23-yard field goal from to retake the lead at 17-14.Eastern Michigan scored to take a 24-17 lead, but the Zips got on the scoreboard again to tie it at 24-24.
Akron scored again, a 36-yard field goal from Wiley in the second overtime, and grabbed a 27-24 lead in the process. Akron didn't score again and Eastern Michigan tacked on six more points to finish off the game.
