Zips Lead After First Day of the Magnus Cup

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Akron swimming and diving team competed in the first day of the Cleveland State University Magnus Cup Invitational on Thursday. After prelims in the morning, the divers took to the 3-meter springboard, before finals in the evening.
For diving, Paige Bush improved her score from prelims by almost 14 points for a third place finish in the 3-meter diving finals with a score of 273.60.
In the first race of the evening, the Zips 200 yard freestyle relay of Rebecca Reid, Weronika Gorecka, Madelyn Gatrall, and Abigail Daniel broke a meet record set by Akron in 2016.
Akron had three swimmers in the A Final for the 50 yard breaststroke with Sara Bozso as the fastest finisher for the Zips in fourth place overall. Elle Couture finished third in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 4:55.51. Reid was the first individual winner with her time of 2:00.36 in the 200 yard IM and teammate Daniel finished right behind her at 2:00.99.
The Zips closed out the day with a 1-2 finish in the 400 yard medley relay. Gatrall, Bozo, Daniel, and Reid finished first with the fastest time, touching the wall at 3:39.16.
