Daniel Breaks Two Individual Meet Records, Aids in Relay Meet Record on Day Two of Magnus Cup

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Zips built on their lead during the second day of competition for the Cleveland State Magnus Cup Invitational, lead by Abigail Daniel with two individual meet records. She also contributed to the 800 yard freestyle relay team that broke another meet record.Â
Paige Bush secured a second place finish in the 1-meter diving, while Laurel Smith finished just seven points behind her for a third place finish.Â
The evening's swim finals began with Madelyn Gatrall, Madeline Dyer, Abigal Daniel, and Rebecca Reid finishing first in the 200 yard Medley Relay at 1:38.57. Akron also took third place in the race with Weronika Gorecka, Sara Bozso, Rachel Sabotin, and Aislinn Holder combining for a time of 1:40.22.
The next women's event saw Daniel break the meet record in the 400 yard IM with her time of 4:16.37. Sabotin finished third and Kenall Craig finished fourth in the event. Daniel then broke another individual meet record with a time of 52.72 in the 100 yard Butterfly. Gorecka touched the wall at 53.59 for a third place finish.Â
Akron swept the podium in the 100 yard Backstroke with Gorecka taking first (53.00), Gatrall taking second (53.46), and Reid in third (53.95). Closing out the women's events was another meet record for the Zips with Gatrall, Reid, Gorecka, and Daniel beating the previous record set in 2017 by Akron by two seconds with their time of 7:18.80. It's the fourth meet record that Akron has broken in two days of competition.

The Zips will conclude the Magnus Cup Invitational tomorrow with prelims beginning at 9 a.m.
