Daphne van Son Tied for the Lead, Zips Fourth at Rio Verde

RIO VERDE, Ariz. – Sophomore Daphne van Son climbed 18 spots on the leaderboard after firing a field-low 69 (-3) at Quail Run Golf Course as the Akron women's golf team registered a season-low 295 at 2023 Rio Verde Invitational on Saturday.
During the second round of play, Akron climbed eight slots on the leaderboard and the Zips currently rank fourth overall with a 309-295 – 604 (+28) ledger.
Van Son is currently tied for 1st with 18 holes left to play. She opened the 54-hole tournament with a 3-over par 75 and bounced back with a 3-under par performance for a an overall even scorecard at 144 strokes.
Jacinta Pikunas is second in scoring for the Zips and 13th overall with a 5-over 75-74 – 149 ledger. Jessica Hahn carded an even-par 72 on her second 18-hole round and ranks 23rd overall. Hridhika Vora and Abbi Fleiner round out the team scoring with 160 and 166 strokes, respectively.
Xavier's Emma McMyler is tied with van Son for the lead as the Musketeers le the 18-team field with a 293-289 – 582 score.
The final round is scheduled for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun as the Zips start on holes 4-6.
