Zips Fall to Indiana, 29-27, in Four Overtimes

BLOOMINGTON, Indiana - Akron took Indiana to four overtimes before dropping a 29-27 decision Saturday night on the road inside Memorial Stadium.
The most prolific target for Akron quarterbacks was junior WR Alex Adams (Osyka, Miss.), who caught five passes for 63 yards.
Junior LB Andrew Behm (Appleton, Wis.) showed out for the Akron defense, collecting four tackles and one interception. Redshirt junior K Dante Jackson (Chico, Calif.) added one recovered fumble and redshirt sophomore DE Antonio Smith (Westerville, Ohio) had 1.0 TFL and one sack in the loss.
The Zips forced two turnovers in Saturday's contest, with Akron turning those takeaways into three points. Akron had a stellar performance on the ground, totaling 263 rushing yards, while averaging 6.6 yards per carry and out-rushing Indiana by 171 yards.
Akron's defense held up against Indiana's offense, allowing 282 total yards.
How It HappenedAkron responded to an early 7-0 Indiana lead with a second quarter field goal to narrow the deficit to 7-3. The Zips then took the lead on a 14-yard rushing touchdown from Irons, making the score 10-7.
After Indiana scored to take a 17-10 lead, Akron responded with a touchdown to even the game at 17-17 on a 71-yard run by Lingard.
The Zips then kept the momentum going in the first overtime period with a 10-yard touchdown run from Irons to grab a 24-17 lead before the Hoosiers tied the game with a touchdown on their possession.
After Indiana scored to take a 27-24 lead in the second overtime, Akron responded with a score of its own, a 23-yard field goal from Jackson, to tie it up at 27-27. Akron didn't score again and Indiana added two more points to finish off the game in the fourth overtime.
Game Notes» DJ Irons and Lorenzo Lingard each rushed for over 100 yards for the Zips with 141 and 113 yards, respectively.
» Akron outgained Indiana, 474-282, including a 263-92 advantage on the ground.
» Sophomore LB Bryan McCoy (Chicago, Ill.) led the Zips with 12 tackles.

» Tayven Jackson led the Hoosiers passing attack, completing 11 of his 26 attempts for 190 yards and one touchdown with one interception.
» Cam Camper was Indiana's leading receiver with 103 yards and one touchdown.
