AKRON, Ohio - The University of Akron men's and women's cross country squads get their final tune-up before the Mid-American Conference Championship on Nov. 2 as the Zips travel to Bowling Green, Ohio, to compete at the Falcon Invitational hosted by Bowling Green on Friday (Oct. 18).

The women's 6K is set to commence at 4:30 p.m. with the men's 8K race slated to start at 5:10 p.m.

Joining the Zips in the field will be Ball State (W), Bowling Green (M/W), Cleveland State (W), Detroit Mercy (M/W), Eastern Michigan (M/W), John Carroll (M/W), Kent State (M/W), Marshall (M/W), Michigan State (M/W), Oakland CC (M/W), Ohio (M/W), Robert Morris (M/W), Tiffin (M/W), Toledo (M/W) and Wright State (M/W).

Freshman Bismack Kipchirchir (Eldama Ravine, Kenya) crossed the line first in the men's 8K race in a school-record time of 23:18.0, while sophomore Mary Munga (Nyandarau, Kenya) led the Zips in the women's 5K race with a time of 17:15.4.

Sophomore Megan Hipple (Warren, Ohio) was next across the line for the Akron women in a time of 17:44.2, while seniors Danielle Honaker (Ashland, Ohio) and Grace Henderson (Rostraver Township, Pa.) along with sophomore Kayla Sucharski (Galena, Ohio) rounded out the scoring performances for the Zips with times of 18:26.1, 18:35.0 and 18:36.4, respectively.

Registering times of 18:47.1 and 19:04.5 was freshman Jadyn Towns (Berlin Heights, Ohio) and senior Halle Sebest (Poland, Ohio).

Freshman Moses Lekokei (Kilgoris, Kenya) was next across the line for Akron men's team in a career-best time of 23:57.6, while culminating the scoring efforts for the Zips was redshirt senior Heriberto Alvarez (Oswego, Ill.), junior Taye Gonzalez (Lewis Center, Ohio) and freshman Emil Stanford (Sunbury, Ohio) as the trio crossed the line in 25:17.2, 25:52.5 and 25:57.7, respectively.

Additionally, senior Justin Zapotoczny (Navarre, Ohio) and sophomore Quinn Hopkins (Akron, Ohio) added times of 26:04.9 and 29:10.2.

The Zips continue their campaign traveling to Muncie, Ind., for the MAC Championships on Nov. 2.
