Sohniya Chandra Mohan Leads Zips to Runner-Up Finish

Kettering, Ohio – The Akron golf team finished runner-up at the 2024 Dayton Flyer Invitational with a 304-300-305 – 909 (+69) tournament total as freshman Sohniya Chandra Mohan led the way with a runner-up 222 (+12) ledger at the NCR Country Club North Course (Par-70, 5,937 yards) om Monday and Tuesday.
Mohan climbed nine spots on the leaderboard for the second-place finish with a 2-over par 72 performance. In the final 18-hole round, she carded 14 pars and one birdie to finish tied with the lowest score of the round. She entered the final round ranked 11th overall on rounds of 73 (+3) and 77 (+7) for a 222(+12) total. For the 54-hole tournament, Mohan recorded four birdies and 36 pars, finishing ranked first in overall in par scoring. She also ranked first in par 4 scoring with a 4.17 (+6) average.
Juniors Avery Wright and Maisarah Hezri finished 11th and 16th, respectively. Wright fired a 4-over 74 final round mixed with a 78 (+8) and a 76 (+6) for a 228 (+18) tournament total. Wright completed the 54-hole run with 30 pars (13th) and five birdies (13th). Hezri carded rounds of 77 (+7), 75 (+5) and 78 (+8) for a 230 (+20) total, finishing with 32 pars (7th) and two birdies (36th).
Rounding out Akron's scoring were juniors Hridhika Vora and Emily Liptak. Vora tallied a 76-72-86 – 234 (+24) for a 22nd place finish, while Liptak registered a 79-78-81 – 238 (+28) for a 33rd place finish.
In addition, Katrin Horn Danielsdottir posted a 88-86-83 – 257 (+47) total as an individual.
The Zips will be back in action in the Spring 2025 with Rust Busters Match Play Challenge at Kings Ridge Golf Club in Orlando, Fla. on
