Eliska Vytiskova Enters the Record Book - Zips Fall to Western Michigan

AKRON, Ohio - Eliska Vytiskova entered the Zips' record book for career assists after recording 53 in a 3-2 (25-21, 22-25, 19-25, 29-27, 8-15) loss to the Western Michigan Broncos Friday at home at James A Rhodes Arena.
Vytiskova now ranks No. 10 in career assists at Akron as she surpassed Karley Kusan's (2013-16) 1,739 career assist. Vytiskova is now up to 1,757 career assists and has Carol Claridge's (1987-88) 1,880 career assists in her sights for No. 9 in career assists.
On offense, the Zips had four players hit double figures in kills. Lauren Baker led the charge with an 18 kill, 13 dig double-double, good for her eighth double-double of the season. Delaney Gash also added a career-high 17 kills to help the attack. Ellen Kinnaird had 14 kills with a hitting percentage of .440 while Karleighana Jones supplied 11 kills. On the defensive end, Sophie Twigg recorded a career-high 16 digs while Vanessa Del Real had 14 and Baker had 13 to go with three blocks from Kinnaird.
The loss dropped Akron's record to 8-16 overall and 4-8 in MAC action.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Zips opened up an early one set to none lead, winning the first set 25-21. Akron never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 15-14 in a set that showcased four lead changes before the Zips took over in the second half of the stanza. The Zips opening set win came in a stanza where 18 of their 25 points came via the kill.
SET 2 | Akron then lost the second set 25-22, tying the match at a set apiece. The Zips fell in a back-and-forth set, losing in a stanza that featured three lead changes and was tied seven times. Neither team led by more than four points along the way.
SET 3 | Akron fell again in set three to make it a 2-1 deficit. The Zips fell behind on the first point and never took the lead before falling in the set 25-19.
SET 4 | Akron broke their two set losing streak and forced a fifth set with a 29-27 victory in set number four. The Zips persevered in a back-and-forth set to win in a stanza that featured five lead changes and was tied 15 times. Neither team was able to grab a lead larger than three points along the way. The Zips win came in a stanza where 22 of their 29 points came via the kill.
SET 5 | After dropping sets two and three, Akron won set four, tying things up at 2-2 to force a fifth set, but couldn't complete the comeback, losing the set 15-8 and the match 3-2. The Zips lost the first point and never took the lead.
