Zips Fall To Central Michigan

AKRON, Ohio - The Akron volleyball team lost to the Central Michigan Chippewas in four sets (23-25, 25-21, 20-25, 9-25) Friday at home at James A Rhodes Arena.
The Zips were led by a double-double from Delaney Gash, who registered a career-high 19 kills and 11 digs. Emanouela Christodoulou added 15 kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, The Zips saw four players reach double figures in Digs. Reilly Chausse led the way with  a career-high 18 digs. Eliska Vytiskova recorded her 16th double-double of the season after recording 36 assists and 14 digs against CMU. Vanessa Del Real added 12 while Gash had 11. Karleighana Jones supplied four blocks for the Akron defense.
The loss dropped Akron's record to 11-18 overall and 7-10 in MAC action.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Zips found themselves in an early hole, losing a tight first set 25-23. Central Michigan grabbed the advantage for good at 20-19 in a set that was tied up six times before the Chippewas took over in the second half of the set.
SET 2 | Akron responded to pick up a 25-21 victory in the second set, evening the match at one set apiece. The Zips never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 18-17 in a set that had just one lead change before the Zips took over in the second half of the stanza. The Akron offense also got a boost from four aces in the set.
SET 3 | Central Michigan responded to win set number three, putting Akron in a two sets to one hole. The Zips came up short by the score of 25-20. Akron trailed by as many as six points as Central Michigan grabbed the advantage for good at 4-3 in a set that was tied up two times before the Chippewas took over the lead.
SET 4 | Akron then fell in the fourth set 25-9 to finish off the match. The Zips dropped the first point and never clawed back into the lead before losing the set.
What's Next?
The Zips conclude the 2024 season with another meeting with Central Michigan on Saturday, November 16 for a 6 p.m. start. Akron will also honor its seniors before the match.
