MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The 14th-ranked University of Akron rifle team battled down to the wire before falling to No. 7 Nebraska (4710-4007) and No. 12 Navy (4717-4707) on Sunday (Nov. 17) at the Robert A. Pinn Shooting Range.

The Akron smallbore team score of 2344 was the second-highest score in program history, only two points shy of the 2346 school record. Fifth-year seniors Erin Schnupp (Gorham, Maine) and Gavin Perkowski (Bolivar, Ohio) led the Zips' efforts with scores of 588 and 587, respectively. Additionally, junior Natalia Siek (Flemington, N.J.), equaled a season-best mark of 586.

A 594 total fired by Perkowski in air rifle lead the squad. The other two Zips in the 590's were seniors Alexis Kirk (Clarence Center, N.Y.) 591) and Rachel Engels (Meridian, Idaho) (590).

Akron returns to competition traveling to battle No. 4 Kentucky and No. 10 Air Force in an 10 a.m. ET match on Saturday (Nov. 23) and Sunday (Nov. 24) in Colorado Springs, Colo.
