ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The 14th-ranked University of Akron rifle squad ran into a talented No. 3 Navy squad that fired a school-record score of 4739 to edge the Zips, 4739-4691, on Saturday (Nov. 15).

Senior Natalia Siek (Flemington, N.J.) and freshman Matthew Kimball (Pineville, La.) led the team in smallbore with impressive 586's. Junior Diane Heschel (Oak Harbor, Ohio) set a career-high mark at 585, and in the process firing the elusive perfect 100 in the kneeling position. Senior Joey Hahn (Middle Grove, N.Y.) turned some heads by leading the team in kneeling with an amazing pair of 99's for a total of 198 out of a perfect 200. All of this effort ended up as a 2335, which is the third-highest smallbore score of the season.

Siek continued her hot streak in air rifle, leading the team with a 592. Tied for second on the team, Hahn and Kimball fired matching 589's, with Kimball winning the center-shot tiebreaker 41 to 40.

Akron returns to competition hosting Mount Aloysius at the Robert A. Pinn Shooting Range on Saturday (Nov. 22) at 11:30 a.m.
