Harkelroad and Nwokike Lead Akron's Efforts at Haynes-Lancaster Open

AKRON, Ohio - The University of Akron Track and Field team opened its indoor campaign registering 11 victories as part of 31 overall top three performances at the Haynes-Lancaster Open on Friday (Dec. 6) at the Stile Athletics Field House.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Senior Joy Nwokike (Benin City, Nigeria) took the women's 400 meters in a career-best time of 54.97, while junior Vanessa Horn (Ludwigsfelde, Germany) placed second in 55.48. Nwokike's performance represented the third-fastest time in indoor program history.
• Nwokike also turned in the fifth-fastest time in indoor program history en route to winning the women's 200 meters in a time of 24:09.
• Redshirt senior Jimmy Harkelroad (Huron, Ohio) and sophomore Braylyn Farrington (Alabaster, Ala.) went 1-2 in the men's 400 meters crossing the line in 48.00 and 48.47, respectively. It marked a career-best time for Farrington.
• Freshman Rukia Omulisia (Nairobi, Kenya) won the women's 60-meter hurdles in a career-best time of 8.69.
• Sophomore AJ Jordan (Columbus, Ohio) recorded a career-best time of 21.44 to win the men's 200 meters, while sophomore Andrew Styles (Freeport, Bahamas) placed second in 21.84.
• Redshirt senior Brook Boes (Tiffin, Ohio) captured the women's shot put with a season-best mark of 44-5.25 (13.54m) before taking the women's weight throw with the No. 5 mark in indoor program history of 64-6.75 (19.68m).
• Redshirt senior Keegan Digby (Bowling Green, Ohio) bested the field in the men's shot put with a mark of 57-6.25 (17.53m), while junior Josiah Cox (New Franklin, Ohio) finished second with a throw of 53-9 (16.38m).
• Freshman Delton Wright (Berea, Ohio) and sophomore Mason Birch (Strongsville, Ohio) took the top two spots in the men's high jump with career-best efforts of 6-8.75 (2.05m) and 6-6.75 (2.00m).
• The men's 4x400 relay team of Farrington, Jordan, Styles and Harkelroad bested the field in a time of 3:18.42.
• The women's 4x400 relay team of Horn, freshmen Eve Clark (Euclid, Ohio) and Mariyah Moore (Cleveland, Ohio) and Nwokike crossed the line first in a time of 3:52.18.
• Freshman Garett Boe (Chesapeake, Va.) placed second in the men's pole vault with a career-best clearance of 16-6.75 (5.05m).
• Junior Tysean Baronette (Middletown, Dela.) placed second in the men's 60 meters in a time of 6.85.
• Freshman Jared Newenhisen (Barberton, Ohio) placed second in the men's 800 meters in a career-best time of 1:59.70.
• Moore crossed the line second in the women's 60 meters in a career-best time of 7.81.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Senior Joy Nwokike (Benin City, Nigeria) took the women's 400 meters in a career-best time of 54.97, while junior Vanessa Horn (Ludwigsfelde, Germany) placed second in 55.48. Nwokike's performance represented the third-fastest time in indoor program history.
