AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron track and field team captured 11 victories as part of 31 overall top three performances at the Sixth Annual Al Campbell Invitational on Friday (Jan. 17) at the Stile Athletics Field House.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Senior Joy Nwokike (Benin City, Nigeria) established a school-record time of 23.79 en route to winning the women's 200 meters. Her effort stands as the No. 13 time in the NCAA this season. She also tallied the third-fastest time in indoor program history in the women's 400 meters winning the race in a career-best time of 54.46.
• Freshman Bismack Kipchirchir (Eldama Ravine, Kenya) won the men's 3,000 meters in a career-best time of 8:08.57. It marks the fourth-fastest effort in indoor program history. Placing second in a career-best time of 8:23.95 was freshman Moses Lekokei (Kilgoris, Kenya).
• Redshirt senior Keegan Digby (Bowling Green, Ohio) recorded a career-best throw of 58-3.25 (17.76m) to win the men's shot put. His performance stands as the No. 5 mark in indoor program history and No. 45 effort in the NCAA this season. Additionally, he finished second in the men's weight throw with a toss of 58-0.25 (17.68m).
• Freshman Rukia Omulisia (Nairobi, Kenya) won the women's 60-meters hurdles in a career-best time of 8.57.
• With career-best times of 6.74 and 6.81, respectively, sophomore Rennie Gittens, Jr. (Miami, Fla.) and sophomore AJ Jordan (Columbus, Ohio) finished 1-2 in the men's 60 meters.
• Redshirt senior Brook Boes (Tiffin, Ohio) captured the women's weight throw with a mark of 62-8.50 (19.11m), while placing second in the women's shot put with a career-best throw of 46-6.50 (14.16m).
• Sophomore Megan Hipple (Warren, Ohio) bested the field in the women's 3,000 meters in a career-best time of 10:05.03.
• Senior Cassidy Allen (Lakewood, N.Y.) and sophomore Jessica Mason (Holland, Ohio) took the top two spots in the women's pole vault with clearances of 12-4.75 (3.78m) and 12-0.75 (3.68m).
• The men's 4x400 relay team of sophomore Braylyn Farrington (Alabaster, Ala.), Jordan, redshirt senior Jimmy Harkelroad (Huron, Ohio) and sophomore Andrew Styles (Freeport, Bahamas) crossed the line first in a time of 3:14.90.
• The women's 4x400 relay team of junior Vanessa Horn (Ludwigsfelde, Germany), freshman Eve Clark (Euclid, Ohio), Omulisia and Nwokike bested the field in a time of 3:49.37.
• Jimmy Harkelroad registered a second-place finish in the men's 200 meters in a career-best time of 21.65.
• Redshirt junior Owen Wendl (Medina, Ohio) placed second in the men's shot put with a mark of 55-7 (16.94m).
• Freshman Isaac Baltic (Medina, Ohio) finished second in the men's pole vault with a clearance of 15-6.25 (4.73m), while sophomore Mason Birch (Strongsville, Ohio) surpassed a career-best bar of 6-7.50 (2.02m) to place second in the men's high jump.
• Freshman El Hadji Abdourahmane Mbodji (Lucie Leclerc, Senegal) came in second in the men's long jump with a career-long mark of 22-0.75 (6.72m).
• Senior Grace Henderson (Rostraver Township, Pa.) placed second in the women's mile in a career-best time of 5:06.29.
