Zips Conclude Action at the Tim Welsh Classic on Saturday

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Akron swimming and diving team concluded action at the Tim Welsh Invitational with a third-place finish and 803 points.
Ohio State finished first with 1,623 points while Notre Dame finished second with 818.
Laurel Smith led the Zips led the Zips in the 1-meter diving event with an eighth-place finish for 246.74 points.
Madelyn Gatrall paced the Zips in the 200-yard back with a sixth-place finish and a time of 1:58.78 while Ada Szwabinska swam the fastest time in the 100-yard free with a time of 50.03.
The 200-yard breast saw Madelyn Bosler lead the way with a seventh-place finish and a time of 2:15.29 while Abigail Daniel took second in the 200-yard fly with a time of 1:56.06.
Akron placed third in the 400-yard free relay as the "Z" squad of Rebecca Reid (50.60), Szwabinska (49.15), Gatrall (50.04) and Daniel (48.72) finished with a time of 3:18.51.
The Zips are back in action on January 31 for a 5 p.m. start when they host Ball State for a MAC dual meet. It will also be Senior Day for the Blue and Gold.
