Zips Host Ball State on Senior Day

AKRON, Ohio - The Akron swim and dive team will battle Ball State while honoring its seniors on Friday.
The Zips will honor Dinica Bosman, Kendall Craig, Abigail Daniel, McKenzie Dunigan, Madelyn Gatrall, Aislinn Holder, Dominika Kossakowska, Julia Mauter, Grace Nuhfer, Rebecca Reid and Laurel Smith before the meet.
Akron has claimed the MAC Swimmer and Diver of the Week awards this past week.
Abigail Daniel was named the MAC Swimmer of the Week for the third time this season while Laurel Smith was named Diver of the Week for the first time.
Daniel had an impressive showing at the Tim Welsh Classic for the Akron Zips this past week.
Abigail dropped over five seconds off her previous season-best in the 200-y fly to finish second with a time of 1:56.06. She now has the best time in that event in the MAC by over 3.6 seconds.
Daniel also took first in the 100-y fly with a time of 52.27 while leading off the 200-y free relay with a time of 22.87 to help the Zips take third with an overall time of 1:30.14.
She also swam a 23.29 in the 200-y medley relay to help the Blue and Gold to a second-place finish with an overall time of 1:37.92. Daniel earned bronze in the 400-y free relay as well after anchoring the squad with a time of 48.72 to help the squad finish with an overall time of 3:18.51.
Laurel Smith led the Akron diving team at the Tim Welsh Classic. Placing in the finals in both the 1 and 3-meter dives, she scored 246.75 in the 1-meter event and 255.05 in the 3-meter event.Â

Akron prepares for the Mid-American Conference Championship which will be hosted by Buffalo from February 26-March 1.
