Horvath and Poist Both Record Three Hits in Loss to Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH, PA -Â Akron saw Andrew Horvath and Jack Poist record three hits each against Pittsburgh in a 16-7 loss on the road Tuesday.Â
Horvath and Poist both had a stellar day at the plate. The pair combined for a 6-for-8 performance with a pair of RBI. Will Heisler went 2-for-4 while driving in a run.
John Allen (0-1) took the loss on the mound for Akron (6-14). Brett Dietrich was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going one shutout inning without allowing a hit, walking none and striking out one.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips got on the scoreboard first, starting in the second inning. Akron got an RBI single from Heisler, scoring Horvath from third base.
The Panthers then rallied to score three runs and take a 3-1 lead before the Zips got back on the board in the third. Akron scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Horvath, which brought the score to 3-2 in favor of the Panthers.
Pittsburgh built their lead to 7-2 before the Akron offense got back to work, reducing that lead to 7-5 in the sixth. The Zips recorded three runs in the frame, two of them coming across on a two-run single off the bat of Evan Bottone.
The Panthers expanded their lead to 13-5 before the Akron offense got back in gear, digging into that lead in the eighth. Charlie Schebler and LA Mighton each scored a run for the Zips in the inning, bringing the score to 13-7 in favor of Pittsburgh. The Zips were unable to get any closer, as Pittsburgh added three runs to their tally on the way to a 16-7 final.
