HIGH POINT, N.C. – The University of Akron track and field team registered nine victories as part of 30 overall top five performances on the final day of the Bob Davidson Team Challenge on Saturday (March 22).
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Senior Joy Nwokike (Benin City, Nigeria) captured the title in the women's 400 meters in a time of 54.17, while junior Vanessa Horn (Ludwigsfelde, Germany) placed second in 54.94.
• Nwokike also bested the field in the women's 200 meters in a time of 23.40.
• Redshirt senior Hunter Garretson (Newcomerstown, Ohio) won the men's pole vault with a mark of 17-7.25 (5.37m).
• Senior Cassidy Allen (Lakewood, N.Y.) eclipsed a career-best mark of 13-2.25 (4.02m) to win the women's pole vault.
• Sophomore AJ Jordan (Columbus, Ohio) won the men's 200 meters in a time of 20.91.
• Redshirt senior Danielle Honaker (Ashland, Ohio) crossed the line first in the women's 5,000 meters in a time of 17:45.39.
• The women's 4x100 relay team of sophomore Ayanna Stafford (Columbus, Ohio), Nwokike, freshman Rukia Omulisia (Nairobi, Kenya) and senior Kaira Granger (Bedford, Ohio) bested the field in a time of 45.88, while the 4x400 relay team of Horn, freshman Eve Clark (Euclid, Ohio), Nwokike and freshman Isabella Swallow (Westerville, Ohio) won in a time of 3:42.22.
• The men's 4x400 relay squad of sophomore Braylyn Farrington (Alabaster, Ala.), Jordan, sophomore Andrew Styles (Freeport, Bahamas) and junior Tysean Baronette (Middletown, Del.) crossed the line first in 3:10.97, while he 4x100 relay team of senior Rennie Gittens, Jr. (Miami, Fla.), Jordan, Baronette, and Styles placed second in a time of 40.20.
• Senior Ruth Webb (Akron, Ohio) posted a career-best mark of 5-7.25 (1.71m) to finish second in the women's high jump.
• Redshirt junior Owen Wendl (Medina, Ohio) placed second in the men's shot put with a mark of 56-6 (17.22m)
