ROCHESTER, Mich. - Though they had plenty of opportunities, Akron struggled to cash them in, leaving 11 Zips on base in an 8-2 defeat to the Oakland Golden Grizzlies on Tuesday.

In the batter's box, the Zips were led by Max Bowman, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a double and a walk. Blake Bowen furnished a standout performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Caden Matlon also contributed for Akron, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding an RBI.

LandonVandegrif (1-3) got the ball to start for Akron (6-18, ) and took the loss. John Allen was a bright spot for the Zips, coming out of the bullpen and throwing one shutout inning, allowing no hits.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Zips got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Akron plated a run on a based-loaded walk by Bowen.

The Zips lost the lead they built in the first, but got back on the board in the seventh trailing 8-1. Bowman came across to score the lone run of the inning for Akron, which brought the score to 8-2 in favor of the Golden Grizzlies. The Zips were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
