Bowen Leads Akron in Loss to Ball State

AKRON, Ohio -Â The Akron Zips got a boost from Blake Bowen, who racked up three hits in an 11-2 loss to the Ball State Cardinals Friday.
In addition to his three hits, Bowen had a double, a home run and two RBI to lead the Zips. Andrew Horvath went 1-for-3 with a double to add to the Zips' offense.
Dawson Tourney (0-2) got the ball to start for Akron (6-19, 0-10) and took the loss. Nathan Currah was a bright spot for the Zips, coming out of the bullpen and throwing 3.1 scoreless innings, allowing three hits, with one walk and one strikeout.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 1-0, the Zips first put runs on the board in the second inning. Akron plated two runs when Bowen left the yard with Horvath aboard. The Zips were unable to hold the lead, as Ball State scored 10 times over the remaining seven innings to grab the 11-2 win.
GAME NOTES
» Bowen led the Zips at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and two RBI.
» Akron's power output was led by Bowen, who picked up two extra base hits in the ballgame.
» Akron's highest scoring inning was the second, when it pushed two runs across.
» Akron pitchers faced 44 Ball State hitters in the game, allowing eight ground balls and 11 fly balls while striking out five.
