Zips Take Down Oakland 11-5 on Wednesday

AKRON, Ohio --The Akron Zips took a 2-1 lead in the second inning and never trailed from there on the way to an 11-5 win against the Oakland Golden Grizzlies on Tuesday.
Offensively, the Zips were paced by Caden Matlon, who went 1-for-5 on the day with a home run and two RBI. Jack Poist put together a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-2 with a double, two walks and two RBI. Ian Pennington also helped out for Akron, putting together three hits in five trips to the plate while adding a double.
Taylor Bednar (1-0) got the win out of the bullpen for Akron (5-7). The right-hander went one shutout inning without giving up a hit, one walk and striking out one. Josiah Ross also pitched well, going one shutout inning without allowing a hit, walking none and striking out three.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips were trailing 1-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. Akron plated two runs when Matlon left the yard with Andrew Horvath aboard.
After the Golden Grizzlies rallied to tie the ballgame at two, the Zips came back to retake the lead in the fourth inning. The Akron offense exploded for five runs, highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of Poist, which brought the score to 7-2 in favor of the Zips.
Oakland narrowed Akron's lead to 7-5 before the Zips stretched the advantage to 8-5 in the sixth inning. The Zips scored once on an RBI single off the bat of .
Akron kept the Golden Grizzlies scoreless before their offense got things moving the next inning. bringing the score to 11-5 in favor of Akron. The score remained 11-5 for the rest of the game, as the Zips coasted to the win.
