AKRON, Ohio - Down three with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Blake Bowen hit a two-run home run to get the Zips within a run of Eastern Michigan, but it wouldn't be enough as the Zips fell 6-5 on Friday.

Akron received contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely.

Josiah Ross (0-1) came out of the bullpen for Akron (5-8, 0-1) and took the loss. Jared Schaeffer was a bright spot for the Zips, starting the ballgame and throwing seven innings, giving up three runs, all earned, on nine hits, with one walk and seven strikeouts.

In the batter's box, the Zips were paced by Bowen, who went 1-for-4 on the day with a home run, a walk and two RBI. Jack Poist compiled a standout effort as well, going 2-for-4 with a double, a walk and an RBI. Max Bowman also contributed for Akron, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding a walk and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 2-0, the Zips first put runs on the board in the fourth inning.

The Eagles then rallied to score four runs and take a 6-3 lead before the Zips got back on the board in the ninth. Akron scored twice on Bowen's two-run homer, which brought the score to 6-5 in favor of the Eagles. The Zips were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
