Garretson and Kipchirchir Earn MAC Track and Field Athlete of the Week Honors

MID-AMERICAN CONFERENCE TRACK AND FIELD ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

CLEVELAND, Ohio – University of Akron redshirt senior Hunter Garretson (Newcomerstown, Ohio) and freshman Bismack Kipchirchir (Eldama Ravine, Ohio) were honored by the Mid-American Conference as its Men's Track and Field Athletes of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday (April 22).

Garretson was tabbed as the MAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week, while Kipchirchir garnered MAC Track of the Week accolades.

Garretson cleared 18-0 (5.49m) to place second at the Beach Invitational on April 19. His mark is a season-best clearance and ranks No. 1 in the MAC and No. 11 in the NCAA this spring.

Kipchirchir ran a school-record time of 8:27.51 to place fourth in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Bryan Clay Invitational on April 16. His time is just off the MAC record of 8:24.62 set in 2004 and ranks as the No. 6 effort in the NCAA this season.
