PITTSBURGH, PA -Â The Akron baseball team fell on the road to the Pittsburgh Panthers 11-0 on Wednesday.
Ian Pennington led the Zips with a 2-for-2 day that included a double. Andrew Horvath collected a double in a 1-for-1 performance while also drawing a walk.
Josiah Ross (1-4) started and took the loss on the mound for Akron (13-30). The right-hander went one inning, giving up one run without giving up a hit, allowing one walk and striking out two. Landon Vandegrift was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going one shutout inning without allowing a hit.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Akron managed one chance with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position. The Zips last got a runner on third in the seventh, when freshman Will Heisler made it 90 feet away from scoring with one out.
GAME NOTES
» Akron left 10 runners stranded on base in the loss.
» Akron pitchers faced 39 Pittsburgh hitters in the game, allowing three ground balls and five fly balls while striking out nine.
» The Zips drew four walks from Pittsburgh pitching.
