Akron Defeats Ohio 8-6 to Begin Series

AKRON, Ohio -Â The Akron Zips fought back from down 5-3 in the sixth inning to defeat the Ohio Bobcats 8-6 Friday.
The Zips were led by Jack Poist's 3-for-4 day that included two doubles, two RBI, two runs scored and a walk. Evan Bottone went 2-for-4 with an RBIÂ and a run scored. Kyle McConachie also went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
Sean Perkins (2-0) got the win out of the bullpen for Akron (15-30, 8-17). The right-hander went one inning, giving up one run on one hit. Jack Fenton tossed 5.2 innings of scoreless relief while allowing four hits, walking one and striking out five. Johnny Anservitz collected his fourth save of the year after throwing a scoreless and hitless frame while collecting a strikeout.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 2-0, the Zips first put runs on the board in the first inning. Poist came across to score the lone run of the inning for Akron and get them on the board.
The Zips deficit expanded to 5-1 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, cutting into that deficit in the fourth inning. Akron brought home a pair, with one run driven in by Charlie Schebler's single, which brought the score to 5-3 in favor of the Bobcats.
Akron held the Bobcats off the scoreboard before rallying to grab a 6-5 lead in the seventh.
The Bobcats then evened up the game at six before Akron fought back to reclaim their advantage in the eighth inning. The Zips pushed across two runs in the frame, the big hit being an RBI double from Poist, bringing the score to 8-6 in favor of Akron. The score remained 8-6 for the rest of the game, as the Zips held on for the win.
