Zips Post Comeback Win Over YSU at Canal Park

AKRON, Ohio -The Akron Zips rallied from down 6-5 in the seventh inning to take down the Youngstown State Penguins 8-6 Tuesday.
In the batter's box, the Zips were paced by Caden Matlon, who went 4-for-4 on the day with a walk and two RBI. Austin Lafferty put together a noteworthy effort as well, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Andrew Horvath also chipped in for Akron, putting together three hits in four trips to the plate while adding two RBI.
Sean Perkins (3-0) got the win out of the bullpen for Akron (17-34). The right-hander went one shutout inning without giving up a hit, no walks and striking out one. Josiah Ross also pitched well, going two shutout innings without allowing a hit, walking none and striking out five. Johnny Anservitz posted his fifth save of the season after throwing a scoreless ninth inning.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 1-0, the Zips first put runs on the board in the first inning. Jack Poist came across to score the lone run of the inning for Akron and get them on the board.
The Penguins broke the tie and re-took the lead heading into the third inning, when the Zips got back on the scoreboard. Akron picked up two runs in the frame, the big hit being an RBI double from Lafferty, which brought the Zips lead to 3-2.
Akron's lead had disappeared once the fifth inning came around and turned into a 6-3 Youngstown State advantage, when the Zips cut that deficit to 6-4. The Zips scored once on an RBI single off the bat of .
Akron kept the Penguins off the board before narrowing the gap further in the seventh. Matlon crossed home plate with the lone run of the inning for the Zips, tightening the Youngstown State lead to 6-5.
The Zips held the Penguins off the board before rallying to grab an 8-6 lead in the eighth. The score remained 8-6 for the rest of the game, as the Zips held on for the win.
