Zips Host Mercyhurst in Final Series of the 2025 Season

AKRON, Ohio - The Akron baseball team concludes the 2025 campaign with a three-game non-conference series with the Mercyhurst Lakers. Thursday and Saturday (Senior Day) will be played at Skeeles Field while Friday will be played at Canal Park.
Fans should park in the West Campus Parking Deck (286 S. Broadway St., Akron, OH 44308) for Friday's contest against the Lakers.

The Lakers concluded NEC action with a sweep of LeMoyne College, who the Lakers used to face when the schools played in the NE-10 at the Div. II level.
The Lakers finished out their home schedule with a 4-2 win over the Dolphins on Senior Day. Scoring the first four runs of the game in the bottom of the first, Mercyhurst wouldn't allow a run until the fifth inning, when it surrendered two.
Eric Chorba is the Lakers leader in batting average (.328) and shared the lead in hits with Jayden Walker (59). Ranciel Ventura is the leader in doubles (11) while Walker holds the edge in home runs (12) and RBI (38). Chris Juchno is the leader in stolen bases (18).
On the mound, Jacob Bazala is the leader in ERA (4.26), wins (7), innings pitched (74.0) and strikeouts (78). Four Lakers have recorded a save this season.

Akron is coming off a comeback 8-6 victory over Youngstown State on Tuesday at Canal Park.
Down 6-4 going into the seventh inning, Akron scored a run in the bottom of the inning while adding three in the bottom of the eighth to capture the victory.
Caden Matlon went 4-for-4 against the Penguins with two RBI. Austin Lafferty hit a pair of doubles while driving in a pair of runs. Andrew Horvath added to his hitting total with three hits and two RBI.
Andrew Horvath leads the Zips in batting average (.344), hits 65 and shares the lead in doubles with Max Bowman (14). Bowman is the leader in home runs (6), RBI (34) and walks (39). Jack Poist is the leader in stolen bases (18).
