Schaeffer and Anservitz Toss Combine Shutout in Akron's 2-0 Victory Against Mercyhurst

AKRON, Ohio -Â Jared Schaeffer and Johnny Anservitz combined to toss a shutout on Friday as the Akron Zips blanked the Mercyhurst Lakers 2-0.
Schaeffer (2-7) started and picked up the win for Akron (19-34), going seven shutout innings while giving up three hits, walking one, and striking out a career-high 12. Anservitz was dealing out of the bullpen as well, going two shutout innings without allowing a hit, walking one and striking out two to earn his sixth save of the season.
Offensively, the Zips were paced by Max Bowman, who went 1-for-4 on the day with a double. Kyle McConachie put together a standout effort as well, going 2-for-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips took the lead for good in the first, scoring for the first time in the inning. Jack Poist came across to score the lone run of the inning for Akron and get them on the board.
The Zips then tacked on a run in the eighth inning to complete their scoring in the ballgame.

Akron concludes the season on Saturday, May 17 against the Lakers for a 1 p.m. start at Skeeles Field. Saturday will also be Senior Day for the Zips.
