Zips Host Flashes for Final #MACtion Regular Season Series

AKRON, Ohio – The #MACtion regular season series is here as the Akron Zips host the Kent State Golden Flashes for three games this weekend, starting with a doubleheader at Noon on Saturday, May 3 followed by single game and Senior Day on Sunday, May 4 at Noon at Lee R. Jackson Field.
WHAT'S AHEAD
With the series split over Buffalo, The Akron Zips qualified for the 2025 Mac Softball Tournament for the first time since 2017. Akron will battle rival Kent State this weekend and honor the Zips 2025 senior class, Alexis Campbell and Autumn Bailey) after the Sunday season finale.

SCOUTING KENT STATE (12-37, 4-20 MAC)
The Flashes enter the series with an 12-37 overall record and 4-20 in MAC play after splitting a double header with Toledo (L 11-4 & W 11-5). Kent State also had league wins over Western Michigan (11-1), Northern Illinois (9-3) and Buffalo (11-4).
Kent State has four players batting above .300 as Kendal Leitner (.404) leads the way. Leitner has 109 at bats with 44 hits, including a team-high six homeruns and eight doubles for 37 RBIs and 17 runs scored. Brynn Libler is second in average (.358) but leads the team in at bats (162), hits (58), runs scored (43), total bases (75) and triples (3). Megan Claerhout (.356) and Delaney Robeson (.316) round out the top-4 hitters. Claerhout is 36-for-101 with 24 RBIs and 15 runs scored, while Robeson is 48-for-152 with 33 RBIs, 21 runs scored, nine doubles and five homeruns.

Under third-year head coach Craig Nicholson leads the Akron in its 49th season of intercollegiate competition, posting a 26-23 overall record and 13-9 in league play. The Zips return 18 players from the 2024 squad and added seven newcomers to the 2025 roster.
The Zips have four players batting above .300 as Meagan Lee (.401) leads the way with 65 hits in 162 at bats. Lee scored 32 times and distributed five doubles, two triples and 16 RBI. Sophia Wygast (.340) follows with 48 hits, and team-highs in homeruns (7) and RBI (35). Brooke Sivek (.317) and Lily Sullivan (.302) round out the top hitters. Sivek has 51 hits and a team-high 33 runs scored, while Sullivan has 45 hits with nine doubles and one homerun, generating a 21 RBI.
