Zips Ready For MAC Showdown With Buffalo
October 17 | Women's Soccer
AKRON, Ohio — The Akron women's soccer team is set to host Buffalo on Sunday, October 18 at 1 p.m.
The Zips (7-5-2, 3-2-2 MAC) are currently ranked fifth in the MAC standings, while the Bulls (4-5-5, 1-3-3 MAC) are 10th.
Akron is coming off a 1-0 win at Central Michigan in which Jordanne Oberhaus notched the deciding goal in the 59th minute. Last season, she also scored the game-winner against CMU. In the match, goalkeeper Sara Bower moved into second all-time in career saves with 215.
Akron is having their best season since 2019, with seven wins already to their name under head coach Maggie Kuhn. In 2019, the Zips notched eight wins. With their victory over Central Michigan, Akron moved their MAC win total up to three which is their most conference victories since 2020. The Zips are looking to qualify for the MAC Tournament for just the seventh time in team history and first since 2019. They are also seeking their first winning season since 2009.
Buffalo has produced the lowest scoring offense in the MAC with just seven goals on the season. However, 57% of their matches have been shutouts — best in the conference. In total, the senior has produced 29 clean sheets, 31 wins, a 0.737 GAA and 200 saves in her career.
The Bulls notched a scoreless draw against UMass last Thursday and are searching for their first victory since September 17 against CMU. Buffalo leads the all-time series against the Zips, 14-8-1, and have won each of the last six matchups while shutting out Akron in five consecutive matches.
